In the past week I’ve heard nothing but the ranting of the fringe Tea Party movement regarding the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King. I guess for Glen Beck’s DC crackpot rally last weekend they found a niece of Dr. King’s that agrees with their ass-backward view on civil rights and equality.  I’m not certain how the rest of the King family feels about this niece bastardizing the legacy of her uncle, but it pisses me off.

The tea-partiers are very quick to point out that “even Dr. King’s niece agrees with them…”. Alveda King is absolutely entitled to her opinions and beliefs, under the first amendment of the constitution. More power to her! However, I am entitled under that same document to call that idoit out for being the dumbass that she is, too!

Typically, as soon as a tea-partier comes up for breath (after suckling on a commentators teet for the next packaged talking point) they throw out another piece of brilliant, borderline hypocritical logic into their argument….that blacks can’t own the legacy of MLK.Surprisingly, this is a notion that totally I agree with, no one owns the legacy of MLK…no one! Not even his short-bus riding niece. How dare they even try to justify blending their divisive, lie-based, fear-mongering message with that of Dr. King’s!

The most disgusting part of the whole thing is that Dr. King’s platform in 1963 would get him lumped in with the rest of the anti-war, pro-civil rights,pro-poor people, big government “socialists and marxists” that are the target of the tea party movement’s ire. These left-leaning people are the same people whose blood the fringe tea party movement would like to “water the tree of liberty with”….those are fighting words, right there!

Too often, Tea Partiers and most conservatives will attempt to reduce MLK’s legacy to a single line from his “I have a dream” speech. The line that goes;

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.”

This talking point approach to American history truly exposes the depth of their cliff notes type understanding of the civil rights movement…However, in the very same speech…Dr. King drops bombs like;

“In a sense we’ve come to our nation’s capital to cash a check (OH NO NOT REPARATIONS!!!). When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the “unalienable Rights” of “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” It is obvious today that America has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked “insufficient funds.”

“This sweltering summer of the Negro’s legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. Nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. And those who hope that the Negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. And there will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights. The whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.”

That was in 1963… Can you imagine what would’ve happened is Dr. King would have went to the Glenn Beck rally and dropped those little pearls of wisdom verbatim last weekend?

Can you imagine what Dr. King would have said to this guy wearing racists T-shirts, or the Tea-Partiers typically racist signage that they had to ask people to check at the door at this rally.

Although he was a man of God, I’m thinking Dr. King would have kicked Glen Beck’s ass for even using his name out of place, and then maybe he would have suggested that his sibling perhaps give that slow slooped-headed niece of theirs up for adoption… Then I’m sure that Sarah Palin would’ve tweeted something stupid and unrelated to the whole situation (perhaps something about her fame whore daughter appearing on DWTS)

Ebonics as you may, or may not, know is the term given to quasi-legitimize ”black” english. Ebonics, is the type of English dialect that you may hear in any predominately black inner-city neighborhood in the United States. The issue rose to national prominence in the late 1990′s when the Oakland California school board considered adding Ebonics to the public school curriculum. Of course people went crazy, and the idea was scrapped.

Ignorance and people’s knee-jerk reactions tend to skew this very legitimate issue off course anytime it re-enters the national debate. The sides of the debate can generally be categorized as follows;

• Pro-Ebonics - Black nationalists, white liberals, and language experts who want to see that “black” English is legitimized like any other dialect that is derived from English.
• Anti-Ebonics – The majority of white folks, all rednecks (motivated by sheer jealousy) , black folks with 4-year degrees and above, and politicos who are concerned with the preservation of English language, and scoff at the notion of black folks getting another thing from them. “When will they stop, complaining!?”, is often their mantra.

Before people get their asses bent out shape on this issue I’d like to provide a few pointers and facts to consider before entering your two cents in regards to the Ebonics debate. This is not an exhaustive list, but should cover the basics.

1. White folks, please remember. Not all black folks speak Ebonics. There are plenty of black folks who would’ve been beat by their parents if they spoke anything close to Ebonics at home, or in public. To keep things on the up-and-up moving forward please do not troll the comments sections of your favorite website leaving racist comments, they do nothing to advance the discussion. Plus, if someone finds out you are the anonymous asshole leaving racist posts while you are on the clock you will probably get fired. Don’t say that you weren’t warned!

2. Black folks. If you insist on speaking Ebonics in public, do not be surprised when white folks look at you funny, cross the street, and/or  give you bad service. No calling Rev Al, no sit-ins, no snapping off. You make this bed, and we all will have to sleep in it. Ebonics sound like ignorance, and you will undoubtedly be treated like an ignoramus.

3. If redneck, southerners, and Texans are considered to speak a legitimate dialect/accent of English, why can’t poor inner-city  black folks have their own? If George Bush can be president, and his accent considered “campy”, why can’t someone with a black accent be president. It is almost expected that any successful black person ditch any trace of an accent in this country. Why the double standard? Black people have to be eloquent, white folks enjoy a choice. Southerners have a lexicon and drawl that doesn’t automatically, deem them to be stupid, and so do Russians, Arabs, Asians, or any other ethnic group. People adopt the accent of their communities, why is there such a backlash against black English?

4. Black folks…again. Are you sure this is something that you want?  The filpside to point 3 is that people poke alot of fun at folks who speak their language with any kind of accent. There are numerous websites that go in hard on rednecks, and anyone with a country accent. Your black ass will get that kind of treatment  three-fold, and likely mostly from the most persecuted folks. Knowing how sensitive most of you are, it may be best to let this sleeping dog sleep.

5. Anyone else with an accent. Be sure to cover that accent up before injecting your two cents in this debate. The last thing that anyone wants to hear is someone spouting off in a heavy Latin, Asian, or Eastern European accent about the virtues of good English.  If your English has any sort of “twang” to it, STFU, or I can guarantee that someone close to you is going to do a bad impression of you talking while the rest of the room laughs in agreement with them.

I’m sure there are plenty of points that I am missing at this point, but I assume this wont be the last we hear of this one.

Coming to a store near you bluetooth birthcontrol. It wouldn’t work though. I mean we have pills, shots, patches and dumb bitches still get pregnant. Then again if you have day care in high school and allow them to keep playing sports what is there to make them think it’s wrong?

Hell, they let Serena Williams play tennis pregnant. Oh, she wasn’t? But she was so big? Fried Chicken? Seriously? Damn.

You have to give it up to Antoine Walker. Just as Tiger Woods was poised to make the term “bitch nigga” an official part of the American lexicon, Cyber Toine comes and makes me forget how fucked up Tiger is.

First, we find out that Antoine is a slum lord and has several buildings in disrepair in Chicago. Then we discover that he is a dead beat that doesn’t pay gambling debts. Walker, a 12 year NBA vet, apparently is so destitute that he had to make payment arrangements on the over 1 million in debts he racked up in Vegas casinos IN 6 MONTHS. That’s right sports fans, in addition to not being too good at shooting 3 pointers, apparently he can’t shoot craps worth a damn either.

So… Antoine you are unemployed, have been to court due to gambling debts, have buildings that are on the verge of being condemned and your tenants are suing you..nigga business at it’s finest. You are where stereotypes come from.

Whatever happened to separation of church and state? Conservatives (racist homophobes and psycho church goers) will tell you that somehow gay marriage will unravel the fabric of society, like there is much of a fabric to begin with. Whatever religious views you hold it is really none of your business how other people live. Using the bible as a pretext we are all going to hell anyway. Although a recent article in Newsweek says that the Bible is all fucked up about the subject anyway (This, and several others, but that’s another blog)

I for one am not gay and have never had an urge to suck a dick, but just like  Brian O’Halloran’s and Jeff Anderson’s characters in Clerks I have tried to suck my own dick and failed (does this qualify as gay or incestuous?). The thing is whether I suck my dick or not is not the business of you conservative, I am against anything, know it all bastards. This is basically an issue of freedom. This issues is no different than trying to go to the school of your choice, or driving down the street in a nice car without being harassed, or tying yourself down in a dreadful monogamous relationship that spirals into a deep seeded self loathing culminating in alcoholism and thoughts of spousal abuse. I mean they let Drew Peterson get married repeatedly and his wives keep coming up dead. So I say to the gays, “protest, get married,  take off work”, although if the hair dressers do it there are going to be alot of sister’s with fucked up weaves come Thursday (the price we pay for equality).  Since your hair is fucked up can I jiz in it when you suck my dick?
